Website redesign or 'theme'
A very topical theme in modern web development is the separation of content and presentation - as this approach becomes more commonplace many software products offer 'themes' which can be applied to the interface to present an image to the user which is in line with the company brand positioning.
However in reality, there is rarely a 'one size fits all' theme that will satisfy commercial organisations, and the quality and longevity of 'free themes' can be unpredictable.
As a complement to our web design service, Digital Design can also help with the styling and 'theming' of applications using standard styling languages such as CSS3 and modern front-end coding syntax such as LESS.
This may be of interest if you have invested in a third-party software product and want to change the default template options to match your own brand - or if you want to present different 'views' of the same content to different groups of users.
Some of the platforms we have 'themed' include:
- Ning - for social networks
- FoundationsTM - PDMS' own software development framework
- Powa - ecommerce software
- Sharepoint - intranet
- Graffiti CMS - Telligent's (now retired) .asp CMS
We also have lots of experience migrating or copying style templates from one platform to another, which can be useful if you are changing CMS - and we are also experienced at creating html email templates for marketing teams.
Ideally, websites should be revamped approximately every two years for a number of reasons.
Firstly, your website is your 'shop front' - you wouldn't hesitate to give your retail premises or office a lick of paint if you believed it was detrimental to sales.
Secondly, the pace of technology advances mean that the 'best' way to develop a website is constantly changing. A current practice is 'responsive web design' which means developing the website in such a way that the layout changes according to which device is being used to view the website eg laptop, iPhone or iPad. However within a few short years these devices and technologies may be enhanced - or even obsolete - and therefore it's possible that the design of your website will need to be updated.
In short - we are happy to do as much or as little of your project as you want us to. We are familiar with most popular development platforms, and always interested to hear about new ones, so please feel free to get in touch if have a query about a particular platform or software product.
