Blogging's bottomline benefits
Immigration to the UK is undergoing its biggest shake up in more than 40 years, meaning those traveling or relocating to the UK need all the advice and guidance they can get. And they are looking for it online.
Objectives: A company of immigration specialists needed to engage people from around the world, build a sense of community among geographically disbursed individuals and ensure the company website appears at the top of any Google search about UK immigration.
Strategy and programme: Sherrilynne advised using a blogsite as the main platform to build and online community combined with proactive social and traditional media campaigns to raise awareness of the blog and attract traffic.
The blog was an easy-to-use virtual 'meeting place' where people can discuss travel plans. Monitoring online discussions, commenting in online forums and other blogs, responding to comments and creating unique compelling content was all played a role in drawing traffic, building SEO and creating a sense of community. Establishing a presence in both Facebook and LinkedIn for the company allowed for engagement in these two colossal communities which in turn attracted traffic and raised brand awareness.
Evaluation: Traffic to the blog started slow and gradually built into a solid, steady stream. People from more than 40 countries visited the blog; industry journalists used it as a source. The business resulting from the blog's SEO achievement was impressive. So much so that online engagement is now at the centre of the company's overall marketing strategy.
Facebook campaign success
An Isle of Man website made the short list for a major UK industry trade magazine thanks to one of Sherrilynne Starkie's combined social media and public relations campaigns.
Objective: When the client, an Isle of Man data centre, sponsored the magazine's awards programme, the challenge was to find a local angle to gain media coverage in the Isle of Man to raise awareness of a new data centre facility.
Strategy and programme: The solution was a campaign to get a Manx website short-listed for The People's Choice award category, and that meant motivating Island residents to vote.
The client pledged to donate £500 to charity for every Manx website shortlisted for the award. A micro site which linked directly to the competition's voting page was launch. Sherrilynne briefed the Isle of Man's news media on the initiative and gained massive Island-wide coverage. She implemented a Facebook campaign to reach the most active Internet users to encourage them to vote in the awards competition.
Evaluation: Comprehensive media coverage and creation of a Facebook community of hundreds drove traffic to the micro site and hundreds of people voted in the competition. As a result, Work Connexions, an Isle of Man social website, was shortlisted beside some of the world's largest and best known platforms.
Every single media outlet in the Isle of Man covered the story, some more than once, and the micro site shot to the top of search page rankings. The result was a lasting boost to the client's reputation, increased awareness of the data centre on the Island and a significant number of sales enquiries through the company's website.
