More than 50 Isle of Man employers and recruiters attended a recent information session about Manx Graduates, the free-to-use careers and networking portal for Manx professionals.
Hosted by the Isle of Man Government, Department of Trade and Industry, Minister David Cretney MHK opened the event by stating, "It's important that we promote the opportunities that exist on the Island and that we encourage people to build their careers here. We need talented individuals to build our future, and Manx Graduates is a great tool towards achieving this goal."
The session included a presentation from Chris Gledhill, managing director of PDMS, the software firm that developed the site. "Manx Graduates is far more than just a job board," he said. "It's an online community that helps employers and professionals network over the long term."
DTI Chief Executive Chris Corlett said, "The Isle of Man government is working with the private sector to identify the key needs of the future, and analysis shows that employers' demand for graduates is increasing year on year. We need more graduate skills in the Isle of Man, and Manx Graduates plays an important role in retaining talent on the Island.
Sue Cook, Chief Executive of Junior Achievement was on hand to provide an overview of the charity, which is dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and enterprise. She said, "As a former recruitment professional myself, I can really see the value of a graduate site. Manx Graduates will provide the most benefit for those who are most active." Sue's advice to employers taking part in Manx Graduates included six top tips:
- use the site regularly
- keep your information up to date
- share success stories
- link back to your own website
- train staff members to use it
- give feedback so the site continues to improve.
