Twitter in search engine marketing

People are making 800 million search queries each day with Twitter’s search service, according to co-founder Biz Stone.

Speaking at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Stone said that the number of queries handled by Twitter search has gown 33% from where it stood just two months ago when it was was supporting 600 million queries each day.

So it seems that Twitter is now handling some 24 billion queries every month and the popular social network is becoming more important in search engine marketing. It’s not surprising the company has recently launched a new PPC advertising model, similar to Google’s AdWords system.

According to media reports, these figures roughly compare to the same level of search queries conducted worldwide on the two main rivals to Google’s crown in online search, Bing and Yahoo!

It’s all part of Twitter’s transition into being an It certainly adds strength an “information network” rather than just a social one.
